At the beginning of March, shortly before the launch of AMD’s RX 9000, we learned that ASRock was planning to launch an RX 9070 XT Steel Legend Dark. This version caught our attention because the brand was changing its habits for this series. Historically, Steel Legend components have been grey/white. In short, the brand is talking about this model again, with a launch imminent?
The RX 9070 XT Steel Legend Dark is back in the news!
As you can see, this new version benefits from a black/grey colour theme that contrasts enormously with the original grey/white version. Clearly, we really like this version, which offers an ideally balanced contrast.
As far as dimensions are concerned, there are no notable changes compared to the white model. The length is still less than 30 cm, while the card takes up just over two slots in the case. In short, it’s a pretty compact reference, especially when you consider some of the cinderblocks like the Red Devil… In any case, it’s a card that fits easily into a Lian Li Q58, for example.
The cooling system continues to use three fans and two blocks of aluminium fins. Contact with the GPU is via a copper base, while there are modules dedicated to the card’s memory and power supply stages. In the meantime, seven copper heat pipes pass through the heatsink, while metal reinforcement at the video outputs ensures rigidity.
Despite the use of a custom heatsink and a phase-change thermal pad, ASRock continues to offer reference frequencies. In boost mode, the GPU will grind at 2970 MHz, while the VRAM remains unchanged.
All that remains now is to keep an eye on retailers for prices, which clearly won’t be at or near MSRP.
